Manchester City Lift FA Cup After Narrow Win Over Chelsea

Manchester City lifted the FA Cup after a tense 1-0 victory against Chelsea at Wembley, completing a domestic cup double under Pep Guardiola. A moment of brilliance from Antoine Semenyo proved to be the difference in a tightly contested final that once again highlighted City’s ability to perform when trophies are on the line.

The winning moment arrived in the second half when Erling Haaland drove a dangerous low cross into the penalty area. Semenyo, closely marked by Levi Colwill, produced a clever back heel flick that guided the ball into the far corner. It was the winger’s 10th goal since his January move from AFC Bournemouth, and easily one of his most important contributions in a City shirt.

Chelsea had their moments throughout the encounter but struggled to find the final touch needed to level the score. Moises Caicedo came close with a header that was cleared off the line by Rodri, while Enzo Fernandez sent another effort onto the roof of the net during a strong spell of pressure.

The London side also appealed for several penalties during the match. Interim manager Calum McFarlane believed a challenge involving Abdoukodir Khusanov and Jorrel Hato should have resulted in a spot kick, but the officials waved play on.

Chelsea’s attacking struggles continued as they failed to score in a fifth consecutive Wembley final. Former City academy graduate Cole Palmer spent much of the evening helping defensively against Jeremy Doku and could not influence the game in attack.

City nearly added more goals late in the contest. Matheus Nunes struck the post after a strong save from Robert Sanchez, while Rayan Cherki also forced the goalkeeper into action.

The victory marks Guardiola’s 20th major trophy with Manchester City and keeps alive a slim hope of adding the Premier League title before the season concludes. After disappointment in recent FA Cup finals, City once again celebrated on the Wembley stage, while Chelsea were left to reflect on another frustrating end to their campaign.
