Arsenal Reach Champions League Quarter-finals After 2-0 Win Over Leverkusen

Arsenal secured a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a dominant 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the Emirates Stadium, clinching a 3-1 aggregate win. Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice provided the match-winning goals, delivering stunning performances to send the Gunners into the next stage of Europe’s premier competition.

The first leg had ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw, courtesy of a late penalty by Kai Havertz. However, Arsenal came out firing in the return leg, determined to seal their progression. Eze opened the scoring in the first half with a brilliant strike from outside the box after controlling a pass from Leandro Trossard. His fourth goal in seven games underlined his growing influence in the squad.

Rice doubled the lead just after the hour mark, showing composure and skill. He intercepted a clearance from Leverkusen and, with a deft touch, guided the ball into the bottom corner. Both goals were a testament to the attacking quality that Arsenal has shown throughout the season, with both players showcasing their technical brilliance in front of goal.

Leverkusen were left to thank their goalkeeper, Janis Blaswich, for keeping the scoreline respectable. The German shot-stopper made a remarkable 10 saves, denying Gabriel, Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Ben White from adding to Arsenal’s tally. White also came close in the first half, seeing his point-blank shot saved following a chaotic scramble in the box.

Despite Arsenal’s dominance, Leverkusen had their moments. In the closing stages, David Raya was forced into a stunning one-handed save from Christian Kofane to preserve the Gunners’ clean sheet. Nevertheless, the match was largely one-sided, with Arsenal in complete control for most of the game.

Mikel Arteta’s side will now face Sporting Lisbon in the quarter-finals after the Portuguese side staged a remarkable comeback, overturning a three-goal deficit against Bodo/Glimt. Arsenal will be full of confidence as they head into that clash, having shown their attacking prowess and solid defending against Leverkusen.

Arteta praised his team’s performance, saying, “We were a threat from every angle. The goalkeeper kept them in the game, but we had magical moments from Ebs and deserved the win.” He also highlighted Eze’s impressive consistency, noting the midfielder’s contribution in every game as key to Arsenal’s success. Despite a slight injury scare for Eze, Arteta confirmed that the player is fit and ready for upcoming challenges.

As Arsenal eye the quarter-finals, their form in this match shows they are more than capable of going the distance in the Champions League this season.
