Sameer Rizvi continued his sensational run in IPL 2026, delivering another match winning performance to guide Delhi Capitals to a six wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing 163 on a slow black soil surface, Rizvi produced a composed yet aggressive 90 off 51 balls, earning his second consecutive Player of the Match award this season and his third in a row if carried over from the final game of IPL 2025.
Earlier in the evening, Delhi Capitals bowlers executed their plans with discipline to restrict Mumbai Indians to 162 for 6. With Hardik Pandya unavailable due to illness, Suryakumar Yadav led the side and anchored the innings with a steady 51 off 36 balls. However, Mumbai struggled to accelerate on a sluggish pitch, with their first six coming only at the end of the seventh over. The lack of momentum was evident as they managed just 38 runs in the final phase of the innings.
Mukesh Kumar played a key role with the ball despite an expensive start. He bounced back impressively to dismiss Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma in quick succession. Axar Patel then tightened the screws in the middle overs, removing Rohit Sharma who scored 35, while Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi kept the scoring in check.
Delhi Capitals did not have the smoothest start to their chase. KL Rahul fell early for 1, while Nitish Rana was run out shortly after, leaving the hosts in trouble at 7 for 2. Pathum Nissanka counterattacked brilliantly with a fluent 44 off 30 balls, shifting the pressure back on Mumbai.
The turning point came when Rizvi shifted gears after a cautious start. From 25 off 23 balls, he unleashed a flurry of strokes, taking apart Corbin Bosch in a single over and following it up with consecutive sixes against Mayank Markande. His calculated aggression ensured the required rate never climbed out of reach.
By the 15th over, the result was virtually sealed. Although Rizvi fell for 90 while attempting a big finish, Delhi Capitals comfortably chased down the target with 11 balls to spare, underlining their growing dominance this season.
