Royal Challengers Bangalore delivered a statement performance at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, overpowering Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring clash that rewrote several records. Powered by explosive finishing from Tim David and Rajat Patidar, RCB piled up a massive 250 for 3, their third highest total in IPL history and the biggest ever posted against CSK.
The innings did not begin at full throttle. Chennai’s seamers, including Matt Henry and Khaleel Ahmed, kept things tight early on, restricting boundaries and making stroke play difficult. Virat Kohli contributed 28 from 18 deliveries before falling, while Phil Salt battled through a slow start to make 46 from 30 balls. Devdutt Padikkal then anchored the middle phase, gradually accelerating after a cautious beginning to bring up a well compiled half century off 28 deliveries.
The match turned dramatically in the final phase. With RCB at 151 for 3 after 15 overs, Tim David and Rajat Patidar unleashed a brutal assault. David dominated the strike, smashing an unbeaten 70 in a stunning display of power hitting. His highlight came in the 19th over, where he hammered Sam Overton for 30 runs, including a sequence of towering sixes, one of which sailed 106 metres out of the ground.
Patidar played the perfect supporting role, finishing unbeaten on 48 from just 19 balls. Together, the duo cleared the ropes 14 times from only 44 deliveries, completely shifting momentum and putting the game out of reach.
Chasing a daunting target, Chennai never found stability. Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early to claim his 200th IPL wicket, while Jacob Duffy removed key batters to leave CSK struggling at 30 for 3. Sarfaraz Khan provided brief resistance with a quickfire 50 from 24 balls, but his dismissal halted any hopes of recovery.
Despite late contributions from Prashant Veer and Sam Overton, Chennai were bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, handing them their third consecutive defeat this season. RCB’s dominant display with the bat proved far too much to overcome.
