Gill Anchors, Buttler Finishes as Gujarat Titans Outclass Lucknow Super Giants

Gujarat Titans continued their strong run in IPL 2026 with a convincing victory over Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to an outstanding bowling display led by Prasidh Krishna and a composed chase anchored by Shubman Gill alongside Jos Buttler.

Prasidh, who had already impressed earlier in the week, produced another impactful spell, finishing with figures of 4 for 28. His disciplined lengths mixed with clever variations made scoring difficult for the opposition. Support came from Mohammed Siraj and Ashok Sharma, who struck at crucial moments to keep the pressure intact. As a result, Lucknow were restricted to 164, a total that always looked slightly below par on this surface.

Lucknow’s innings never fully gained momentum. Early breakthroughs ensured they were always rebuilding rather than accelerating. Mitchell Marsh fell after a quick start, while Rishabh Pant failed to convert his aggressive intent into a meaningful contribution. Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni also departed at key stages, leaving the middle order under pressure.

Nicholas Pooran showed glimpses of his power with a couple of sixes but struggled for rhythm, managing just 19 from 21 deliveries. Late contributions pushed the total past 160, yet it never felt enough against a confident Gujarat side.

In response, Gujarat’s chase was controlled and clinical. Gill absorbed early pressure from Mohammed Shami before shifting gears brilliantly. A flurry of boundaries, including an elegant straight hit, highlighted his class as he reached a half century off 34 balls.

Buttler then took over, continuing his fine form. After a steady start, he accelerated against both pace and spin, dominating the middle overs. His unbeaten knock included a rapid fifty off 29 balls, marking his 100th half century in T20 cricket. His aggressive stroke play ensured the target was chased down comfortably in 18.4 overs with seven wickets remaining.

Though Gill departed late in the innings, the result was never in doubt. Gujarat Titans showcased balance in both departments, making it back to back wins and reinforcing their status as serious contenders this season.
