From Control to Collapse: CSK Stunned by SRH’s Bowling Fightback

Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a stunning turnaround to defend a modest total of 194 against Chennai Super Kings, thanks to a collective bowling effort that flipped the match on its head. In a season dominated by high-scoring encounters, this contest stood out as a reminder that disciplined bowling can still dictate outcomes.

At one stage, projections suggested Hyderabad could post well beyond 230, but Chennai’s bowlers, led by Jamie Overton along with Anshul Kamboj and Gurjapneet Singh, ensured the total remained within reach. Chasing 194, Chennai appeared firmly in control, especially when they required just 84 runs from the final 10 overs with seven wickets intact. However, the game took a dramatic turn from there.

Eshan Malinga spearheaded the comeback with figures of 3 for 29, supported brilliantly by Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivang Kumar, and Sakib Hussain. Each of them maintained tight control, all conceding at less than eight runs per over while chipping in with crucial breakthroughs. Shivang removed Dewald Brevis for a duck, while Sakib’s dismissal of Shivam Dube effectively ended Chennai’s resistance.

Earlier in the innings, Abhishek Sharma provided explosive momentum, racing from 26 off 10 balls to a 15-ball half-century. His aggressive shift in approach, especially by creating room to attack, punished Chennai when they persisted with a predictable plan. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed with a composed fifty, continuing his consistent run this season despite a slightly reduced strike rate.

Overton stood out in the middle overs yet again, showcasing his effectiveness with hard lengths. His dismissal of Abhishek came shortly after a dropped chance and proved to be a turning point. Meanwhile, Klaasen dominated the spin challenge, scoring 24 runs off Noor Ahmad at an impressive strike rate of 185, highlighting his continued strength against wrist spin.

In the final phase, Kamboj and Gurjapneet executed near-perfect death bowling, conceding only 17 runs in the last three overs. This effort ranks among the most economical finishes this season, just behind Gujarat Titans’ standout performance.

Chennai’s chase was further derailed by an injury to young Ayush Mhatre, who had earlier blitzed his way to a rapid start. His absence slowed the scoring rate significantly, with the team losing momentum during the middle phase.

Malinga sealed the contest with precision bowling under pressure, using yorkers and subtle movement to pick key wickets. Chennai, once cruising, faltered badly, exposing lingering issues in their squad balance. What seemed like a routine chase ultimately turned into a memorable heist by Hyderabad.
