Gujarat Titans continued their impressive rise in the IPL standings with a commanding 77 run victory over Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, securing their fourth consecutive success of the season. The result pushed GT into second place on the table with 14 points as their momentum continues to build at the perfect stage of the tournament.
The visitors laid the foundation for victory through another superb opening stand between captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The pair once again delivered a composed yet aggressive display, putting together 118 runs at the top. Gujarat looked in complete control from the beginning, especially during a chaotic opening over from Jofra Archer that stretched to 11 deliveries and leaked 18 runs through extras and loose bowling.
Gill and Sudharsan made full use of the early scoring opportunities, regularly driving straight down the ground and punishing anything drifting onto their pads. Both batters brought up half centuries from only 30 deliveries, helping GT race beyond 80 without losing a wicket inside the powerplay.
Rajasthan managed to slow things slightly in the middle overs through the efforts of Yash Raj Punja and Ravindra Jadeja. Sudharsan eventually departed for 55 from 36 balls, while Jos Buttler was hurried into a mistimed shot by Jadeja soon after. Despite that brief slowdown, Gujarat still found another gear at the death.
Rahul Tewatia and Washington Sundar provided the finishing touch in the final over. Tewatia smashed consecutive sixes before Sundar added another maximum, lifting GT to a daunting 229 for 4.
Rajasthan’s chase started with fireworks from teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who blasted 36 from just 16 balls. However, once he fell to Mohammed Siraj, the innings gradually lost direction.
The turning point arrived through Rashid Khan. The Afghan spinner produced a vintage spell, finishing with outstanding figures of 4 for 36. He removed Dhruv Jurel just when the Royals looked capable of mounting a challenge, before dismantling the middle order with sharp turn and clever variation.
Jadeja briefly counterattacked with a few aggressive strokes, but Rashid trapped him lbw immediately after being struck for six. From there, the Royals never recovered. Jason Holder cleaned up the tail with three late wickets as Rajasthan suffered their third defeat in four matches.
