Adesanya Refuses to Step Away Despite Fourth Straight Defeat

Israel Adesanya has made it clear that retirement is not on his mind, even after suffering a fourth consecutive defeat in the UFC. The former two time middleweight champion was stopped in the second round by Joe Pyfer in Seattle, adding to recent losses against Sean Strickland, Dricus du Plessis and Nassourdine Imavov.

Despite the setback, Adesanya remained defiant. Speaking after the fight, the 36 year old dismissed any suggestion of stepping away from the sport, expressing his determination to continue competing. His last victory came in 2023 when he defeated Alex Pereira, a win that showcased his ability to bounce back under pressure.

The fight itself began with Adesanya showing control and composure. He defended well early on and found success with leg kicks, appearing sharp in the opening exchanges. However, the momentum shifted when Pyfer landed a series of powerful strikes, including a left hook followed by a body shot and a right hand. The sequence proved decisive as Adesanya was taken to the ground, prompting the referee to step in and stop the contest.

Joe Pyfer was respectful in victory, praising Adesanya’s intelligence and legacy inside the division. He acknowledged Adesanya as one of the smartest champions in the sport and even described him as the greatest middleweight in his view.

Adesanya also recognised the challenge, admitting he expected Pyfer to bring his best in what was a major moment for the rising contender. After more than a year away from competition, he welcomed the intensity of the fight and the test it provided.

While the results have not gone in his favour recently, Adesanya’s mindset remains unchanged. His response to defeat reflects a fighter still driven by passion, resilience and the desire to keep proving himself at the highest level.
