Sameer Rizvi delivered a match winning performance as Delhi Capitals secured a comfortable six wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the fifth match of IPL 2026 on Wednesday.
Chasing a modest target of 142, Delhi found themselves under early pressure at 21 for 2 in the fourth over. That was when Rizvi stepped in and changed the course of the game with remarkable composure. The young batter remained unbeaten on 70 from 47 balls, striking five boundaries and four sixes, guiding his side to 145 for 4 in just 17.1 overs with 17 balls to spare.
Rizvi found strong support in Tristan Stubbs, who played a steady hand with an unbeaten 39 from 32 deliveries. Together, the pair ensured there were no further setbacks after the early wickets, building a partnership that steadily took the game away from Lucknow.
Earlier in the match, it was Delhi’s bowlers who laid the foundation for the win. Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan led an impressive pace attack, claiming three wickets each and restricting Lucknow to 141 in 18.4 overs. Their disciplined spells kept the scoring in check and prevented the home side from building any significant momentum.
For Lucknow, Abdul Samad was the top scorer with a brisk 36 off 25 balls, while Mitchell Marsh contributed 35 from 28 deliveries at the top of the order. However, regular wickets disrupted their progress and they were unable to post a challenging total.
Kuldeep Yadav also made a valuable contribution with two wickets, adding further pressure in the middle overs.
In the end, Delhi Capitals produced a complete team performance, with both bat and ball clicking at the right moments, while Sameer Rizvi’s calm and controlled innings stood out as the defining effort of the match.
