Guardiola’s Side Target Key Midfield Reinforcement This Summer

Manchester City have taken a strong lead in the race to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, despite serious interest from rivals Manchester United and Arsenal. Sources close to the situation suggest the midfielder is increasingly likely to end up at the Etihad Stadium.

While negotiations are still ongoing, it is unclear whether a deal will be completed before or after the upcoming international tournament, where Anderson is expected to feature prominently under Thomas Tuchel for England national football team. His performances on that stage could further boost his already rising valuation.

The 22 year old remains tied to Forest until June 2029, placing the club in a strong position during negotiations. He is part of a highly sought after group of central midfielders expected to be available in the next transfer window, alongside talents like Sandro Tonali, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Aurélien Tchouaméni.

City’s admiration for Anderson stems from his steady development since leaving Newcastle United. Strong relations between the two clubs could also help smooth discussions. Meanwhile, potential midfield changes at City are expected this summer, with doubts surrounding Mateo Kovačić and Nico González. It has already been confirmed that Bernardo Silva will depart once his contract expires.

Beyond midfield, City are also exploring attacking reinforcements. RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has attracted attention, with top European clubs monitoring him closely. Another name under consideration is Eli Junior Kroupi of AFC Bournemouth, who impressed with 11 goals in 29 league appearances last season.

Despite these targets, City already possess strong depth in attack. Players like Savinho and Jérémy Doku provide width, while Omar Marmoush supports main striker Erling Haaland.

Defensively, the club is also monitoring right back options, including Givairo Read from Feyenoord, as they continue planning for the future.

With multiple areas under review, City’s transfer strategy reflects both immediate needs and long term squad evolution.
