Islamabad United delivered one of the most dominant performances in PSL history, dismantling Hyderabad Kingsmen by eight wickets to confirm their place in the 2026 playoffs. In a one sided encounter, United bowled out their opponents for just 80, which now stands as the fifth lowest total in the tournament, before chasing it down with a remarkable 80 balls remaining. This victory also goes down as the largest win in PSL history in terms of deliveries left.
The result keeps United firmly in contention for a top two finish. Their final league match against Multan Sultans, who currently sit just one point ahead, will decide whether they secure that advantage. Meanwhile, Kingsmen now find themselves relying on other outcomes, as they remain tied on points with Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings in a tight race for the final playoff position.
The foundation of this commanding win was laid early by Richard Gleeson, whose fiery opening spell dismantled Kingsmen’s batting order. Taking full advantage of the conditions in Karachi, where moisture in the air and cross breeze created movement, Gleeson struck in each of his first three overs. His consistent hard length deliveries proved difficult to handle, accounting for key batters including Maaz Sadaqat, Marnus Labuschagne and Saim Ayub. Within the powerplay, Kingsmen were already struggling at 24 for 3.
The pressure did not ease after that. Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim tightened their grip during the middle phase, ensuring no recovery was possible. Shadab broke a brief partnership between Usman Khan and Kusal Perera with clever variations, removing Perera before striking again immediately to expose the lower order. Imad complemented him perfectly, trapping Glenn Maxwell in front and later cleaning up the tail. Maxwell’s poor debut season continued, managing only 26 runs across five innings.
Kingsmen never found momentum, with only a solitary six coming late in the innings, as they were eventually bowled out in the 16th over. Usman Khan remained unbeaten on 25 from 35 balls, but lacked support from the other end.
Chasing a modest target, United lost Devon Conway early, but there was no panic. Youngsters Sameer Minhas and debutant Mohsin Riaz turned the chase into a showcase of attacking cricket. The pair added 79 runs in just 38 deliveries, taking apart the bowling attack with aggressive stroke play.
Mohsin led the charge with a blistering 42 from 18 balls, while Sameer played a composed yet impactful knock of 27 not out. Their partnership ensured the target was nearly achieved within the powerplay itself. Only three runs were needed after six overs, highlighting the sheer dominance of United.
Although Mohsin fell just before the finish, Shadab Khan sealed the win with a crisp boundary, bringing an emphatic end to a match that underlined Islamabad United’s title credentials.
