Liverpool 1–1 Tottenham: Richarlison’s Late Strike Silences Anfield

Tottenham Hotspur snatched a dramatic late draw at Anfield as Richarlison’s 90th-minute goal secured a 1-1 result against Liverpool, handing Spurs manager Igor Tudor his first point since taking charge.

The match looked set to go Liverpool’s way after Dominik Szoboszlai gave the hosts the lead in the first half with a superb free-kick. However, Tottenham showed resilience and determination to fight back in the closing stages, preventing Liverpool from securing a crucial victory in their push for a top-four finish.

Liverpool started brightly in front of their home crowd and quickly looked the more dangerous side. Szoboszlai’s free-kick broke the deadlock when Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario failed to deal with the effort, allowing the ball to slip into the net. The goal was Szoboszlai’s fourth from a free-kick this Premier League season, highlighting his growing reputation as a set-piece specialist.

Despite going behind, Tottenham refused to collapse. Missing several first-team players and under immense pressure after a difficult run of form, the visitors dug deep and gradually found confidence as the match progressed.

Richarlison in particular was persistent throughout the game. The Brazilian forward tested Liverpool’s defence repeatedly and created several chances, finishing the match with five attempts on goal. His determination eventually paid off in the final minute when he converted from close range after Randal Kolo Muani battled past Liverpool defenders Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk to set up the opportunity.

The late goal stunned the Anfield crowd and ensured Tottenham avoided what would have been their seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions. The point could prove valuable in their battle to stay clear of the relegation zone, with the team now sitting just above the bottom three.

For Liverpool, the result will feel like two points dropped. After taking the lead and controlling much of the first half, they failed to capitalise on their advantage and allowed Tottenham to grow into the match.

Supporters expressed frustration at full-time as Liverpool missed an opportunity to climb into the top four. Defensive lapses and missed chances ultimately proved costly, leaving Arne Slot’s side in fifth place and searching for answers as the season continues.
