RCB Crush Mumbai with 240 as Salt and Patidar Lead Batting Masterclass

Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a commanding performance against Mumbai Indians, overcoming the disadvantage of losing the toss to post a massive 240 and defend it comfortably at the Wankhede Stadium.

On a batting-friendly surface where chasing is usually preferred due to dew, RCB turned the game on its head with a powerful display from their top order. Phil Salt set the tone early with a blistering 78 from just 36 deliveries, combining aggressive stroke play with clean hitting. Alongside him, skipper Rajat Patidar produced a stunning 53 off only 20 balls, marking the fastest half century of his IPL career. Both batters thrilled the crowd with sequences of consecutive sixes, piling up a combined total of 11 maximums and 10 boundaries.

Despite their dominance, Virat Kohli had a quieter outing by his standards, scoring 50 from 38 balls. While he anchored one end, the fireworks from his partners ensured the scoring rate never dipped, pushing RCB to one of the highest totals recorded at this venue.

Mumbai’s chase began on a strong note, reaching 48 without loss inside four overs, driven by aggressive intent from Ryan Rickelton. However, the introduction of spin changed the course of the match. Suyash Sharma made an immediate impact by removing Rickelton and Tilak Varma in the same over, halting Mumbai’s momentum.

Krunal Pandya complemented the effort brilliantly, maintaining tight control throughout his spell. He conceded only 26 runs in four overs and claimed the crucial wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, further pushing Mumbai behind the required rate. Together, the RCB spinners delivered eight overs for 73 runs while picking up key wickets, clearly outperforming their counterparts.

Mumbai struggled to keep up with the escalating target, especially after Rohit Sharma left the field due to a hamstring concern. Although Sherfane Rutherford fought back with a rapid 71 off 31 balls, the required rate had already climbed beyond reach.

Even disciplined bowling from Jasprit Bumrah, who finished with economical figures, was not enough to restrict RCB earlier in the innings.

In the end, Bengaluru’s all-round performance with bat and ball proved too strong, securing a convincing victory and reinforcing their strength as a balanced side.
