China’s Tang Kai reminded the MMA world why he remains the ONE Championship featherweight king after delivering a commanding performance against Shamil Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 43 in Bangkok.
Competing at the famous Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, Tang looked sharp, focused, and far more confident than many expected after spending over a year away from competition. The Chinese star successfully defended his featherweight MMA title with a fourth round technical knockout victory after systematically damaging Gasanov’s lead leg throughout the contest.
The 30 year old champion entered the bout carrying pressure from his previous outing in January 2025, where he suffered a difficult stoppage defeat against Akbar Abdullaev. Despite losing that encounter, Tang managed to keep his championship because Abdullaev failed to meet hydration and weight requirements, meaning the fight was ruled a non title contest.
Rather than allowing that setback to damage his confidence, Tang appears to have used it as motivation to improve his overall game. Speaking after the win, the champion admitted he gained valuable lessons from facing Abdullaev and expressed interest in a future rematch.
For now, however, another challenge may already be waiting. Tang openly welcomed a possible showdown with Mongolia’s Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu, who recently captured the bantamweight MMA title after defeating Fabricio Andrade in December.
Baatarkhuu, now 37 years old, has publicly spoken about becoming a two division champion and moving up to featherweight. Tang made it clear he is more than willing to accept that challenge, confidently stating that the difference in level between them would become obvious inside the cage.
Inside the fight itself, Tang showed excellent discipline against one of the division’s strongest grapplers. Gasanov constantly pushed forward and searched for takedowns, but Tang stayed composed in clinch exchanges while targeting the challenger’s legs with damaging kicks.
As the rounds progressed, Gasanov’s movement slowed significantly. By round four, the Russian could barely move effectively, allowing Tang to continue attacking before the referee stepped in to stop the contest.
The victory marks an important comeback moment for Tang Kai and firmly re establishes him as one of ONE Championship’s most dangerous title holders.
