The UFC roster shake up continued this week as four more fighters were removed from the promotion following the latest Fight Night event. What surprised many fans most was the departure of a top five ranked contender who had just secured a victory inside the Octagon.
In recent months, the organisation has been making several unexpected changes to its fighter lineup. Big names have already left the company for different reasons, including former welterweight title challenger Colby Covington, who recently announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition. Other recognised athletes such as Mayra Bueno Silva and Brad Riddell were also removed from the roster, showing that even experienced competitors are no longer guaranteed long term security in the UFC.
The latest releases came shortly after last weekend’s Fight Night card, where Arnold Allen earned an important unanimous decision win against Melquizael Costa in the featherweight division. Allen entered the contest looking to recover after suffering a defeat to rising contender Jean Silva earlier in the year, and he managed to return to winning form with a composed performance.
However, not every athlete on the card left with good news. Brazilian bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira became the most shocking name among the released fighters. Vieira had just defeated Jacqueline Cavalcanti and remained ranked number five in the women’s bantamweight division. Despite holding victories over former champions Miesha Tate and Holly Holm during her UFC career, the Brazilian still found herself cut from the promotion.
The roster changes did not stop there. Light heavyweight competitors Ivan Erslan and Tuco Tokkos were both released after competing against each other on the same card. Erslan picked up his first UFC victory in the bout, while both fighters ended their time in the organisation with identical 1 and 3 records.
Flyweight athlete Daniel Barez also exited the company after losing by unanimous decision to Luis Gurule, who finally secured his first UFC win after beginning his Octagon career with three straight defeats.
These latest departures once again highlight the ruthless nature of the UFC, where even ranked fighters and recent winners are never fully safe from roster decisions.
