Galle Gallants maintained their perfect start to the Lanka Premier League 2026 after completing a five wicket chase against Colombo Kaps in the third fixture at the SSC Grounds in Colombo on 18 July.
Asked to take first strike, Colombo Kaps finished on 189 for eight from 20 overs, with captain Kusal Mendis producing the standout contribution. Mendis struck 79 from 53 balls, sending two shots to the boundary and clearing the ropes seven times.
Ben McDermott also made an impact with a composed 57 from 34 deliveries. His innings featured six fours and two sixes, giving Colombo momentum through the middle phase.
Mendis and McDermott added 97 from 63 balls for the fourth wicket, rebuilding the innings and placing their side in a strong position before the final overs.
The Gallants responded confidently, with Sam Harper providing the early acceleration. The Australian opening batter scored 65 from 45 balls, finding the fence six times and hitting three sixes to keep the required rate under control.
Sahan Arachchige then delivered the decisive burst near the finish. He remained unbeaten on 38 from only 16 deliveries, striking seven boundaries during a powerful late assault.
His calm but aggressive approach guided Galle beyond the target with five wickets remaining. The result gave the Gallants back to back victories and preserved their unbeaten opening to the tournament.
With Harper controlling the chase and Arachchige closing it in style, Galle once again showed their batting depth and ability to perform under significant scoreboard pressure.
