Guyana Warriors Storm Past St Lucia Kings to Go Top

Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their strong CPL 2026 run with a convincing seven wicket victory over St Lucia Kings, securing a second consecutive success and moving to the top of the standings.

The foundation was laid by Dwaine Pretorius and Shamar Joseph, who combined for five wickets as St Lucia were restricted to 151 for 7. Pretorius claimed three wickets through clever changes of pace and effective short pitched bowling, while Shamar produced serious speed, regularly exceeding 145kmh and reaching 149.9kmh.

St Lucia struggled to build meaningful partnerships during the first half of their innings. Kamil Pooran made 19 from nine deliveries, while Andries Gous contributed 20 from 21 before both fell to Pretorius. Imran Tahir removed Ackeem Auguste, while Shamar dismissed captain Roston Chase before the midway stage.

Charith Asalanka and Darren Nedd attempted to repair the damage with a 45 run partnership from 40 balls. Mohammad Nabi then produced two excellent catches to dismiss both batters. Matthew Forde added useful late runs with two sixes as the Kings eventually crossed 150.

Guyana responded positively through Glenn Phillips and Mavendra Dindyal. Phillips attacked immediately with two sixes and two boundaries, while Dindyal recovered from a duck on debut to record a composed run a ball fifty. Their opening partnership reached 77 before Phillips was dismissed.

St Lucia briefly slowed the chase through Maheesh Theekshana, Shadley van Schalkwyk and Chase, with Theekshana also removing Shai Hope.

However, Quentin Sampson and Shimron Hetmyer quickly ended any hopes of a comeback. Sampson struck two leg side sixes before Hetmyer smashed four consecutive boundaries. Hetmyer then sealed the contest with a six as Guyana surged to victory after scoring 36 runs from the final nine balls.
