Williams Secure Carlos Sainz on New Multi Year Formula 1 Deal

Carlos Sainz will remain with Atlassian Williams F1 Team beyond 2026 after agreeing a fresh multi year contract, completing the squad’s driver pairing for the 2027 Formula 1 season.

The Spaniard arrived at Williams in 2025 and has since become an important figure in the team’s efforts to return to regular contention near the front. Alongside his speed on track, Sainz has earned praise for his technical feedback and ability to contribute to car development as Williams continues its rebuilding programme.

His decision follows confirmation that Alex Albon has also extended his stay, giving Williams stability heading into its 50th anniversary season in Formula 1. Between them, Sainz and Albon have accumulated more than 370 Grand Prix appearances, over 1,600 championship points and 31 podium finishes.

Despite a challenging 2026 campaign, both drivers remain confident about the direction of the organisation and the work taking place away from the circuit.

Sainz played a major role in Williams recording its strongest season since 2016 last year. One of his biggest moments came in Azerbaijan, where he claimed third place in Baku to secure his first podium for the team. He later added a Sprint podium in Austin before returning to the Grand Prix podium with another strong result in Qatar.

The 31 year old has four Formula 1 victories to his name and his latest agreement underlines his belief that Williams can continue progressing toward the leading teams.

Williams remains one of Formula 1’s most successful constructors, having collected nine Constructors’ Championships and 114 Grand Prix victories.

Sainz also joins rare company in the sport’s history. Alongside Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell, he is one of only three drivers to have represented Williams, McLaren and Ferrari during his Formula 1 career.

With Sainz and Albon secured, Williams now has its experienced driver combination in place for a significant 2027 season.
