Hungary Edge Ukraine in Tense Nations League Battle

Hungary secured an important 2–1 victory over Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League after a dramatic second half in Trnava.

The opening 45 minutes ended without a goal as both teams struggled to turn promising attacks into clear opportunities. Ukraine enjoyed slightly more possession and attempted to dictate the tempo, while Hungary remained organised and waited patiently for chances to break forward.

The contest came alive after the interval. Milán Tóth put Hungary ahead in the 52nd minute, giving his side the advantage after a closely fought first half.

Ukraine responded by increasing the pressure and searching for a route back into the match. Their persistence finally produced a reward in the 83rd minute when Roman Yaremchuk found the net to make it 1–1.

However, the hosts had little time to enjoy their equaliser.

Just two minutes later, Márk Csinger restored Hungary’s advantage, scoring the decisive goal in the 85th minute and leaving Ukraine with another difficult task in the closing stages.

Ukraine pushed forward during the remaining minutes but could not find a second response, allowing Hungary to leave with all three points.

The statistics showed how competitive the encounter was. Ukraine recorded 52.1 percent possession and produced 17 attempts compared with Hungary’s 10. Despite creating more shooting opportunities, Ukraine managed only two efforts on target. Hungary were considerably more efficient, registering four shots on target from their 10 attempts.

The result also gave Hungary revenge for their 1–0 defeat against Ukraine in Budapest earlier in the competition.

After four matches, Hungary moved onto seven points with two victories, one draw and one defeat. Ukraine remained on four points following one win, one draw and two losses, increasing the importance of their remaining Nations League fixtures.
