Bangladesh End Long Wait with Dominant ODI Victory Over Australia

Bangladesh produced a superb all round performance in Dhaka to register a memorable 86 run victory over Australia in the opening One Day International. The result, confirmed through the DLS method after a thunderstorm interrupted play, marked Bangladesh’s first ODI win over Australia since the famous Cardiff success in 2005.

The home side were driven by two standout performers. Returning to the national setup after a four year absence, Mosaddek Hossain delivered one of the finest displays of his career. He remained unbeaten on 86 from 70 deliveries and later chipped in with two crucial wickets. Fast bowler Nahid Rana continued his remarkable rise, claiming 4 for 41 while regularly troubling the Australian batters with speeds exceeding 150 kilometres per hour.

Australia’s chase got off to the worst possible start. Taskin Ahmed struck with the opening delivery, removing Matt Short and leaving the visitors immediately under pressure. Mustafizur Rahman followed by trapping Marnus Labuschagne leg before wicket, reducing Australia to a precarious position early in the innings.

Rana then took centre stage. The young quick dismissed captain Josh Inglis with a sharp delivery that found the edge, before later accounting for Alex Carey, debutant Liam Scott and Xavier Bartlett. His hostile pace and accuracy prevented Australia from building any meaningful partnerships. Although Cameron Green battled hard to remain unbeaten on 52, the outcome was already beyond doubt.

Mosaddek’s contribution was equally important with the ball. He removed Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw while also taking an excellent running catch to complete a memorable day.

Earlier, Bangladesh posted a competitive total thanks largely to Mosaddek’s outstanding knock. After the hosts slipped to 140 for 4, he combined with Tawhid Hridoy in a valuable 75 run partnership that steadied the innings and rebuilt momentum.

The foundation had been laid by Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who shared a fluent 96 run stand for the second wicket. Both left handers played positively and kept the scoreboard moving before falling after reaching promising starts.

Mosaddek then accelerated brilliantly in the closing stages. His innings featured seven boundaries and three maximums, while his smart running between the wickets helped Bangladesh add vital late runs. Supported by the lower order, he guided the Tigers to a challenging total that ultimately proved far beyond Australia’s reach.

With bat and ball, Bangladesh showcased their growing strength at home and delivered one of their most convincing victories against a major cricketing nation.
