Duckett’s Brilliant 167 Powers England to 55 Run Victory Over Sri Lanka

England concluded their Pakistan ODI Tri Series campaign with an impressive 55 run victory against Sri Lanka in Lahore on October 29, 2026. Despite a remarkable century from Pavan Rathnayake, Sri Lanka could not overcome England’s imposing total of 386 for 5, eventually finishing on 331.

Ben Duckett delivered an outstanding batting performance, recording his highest ODI score of 167 from 132 deliveries. His innings featured 24 boundaries without a single six, demonstrating exceptional placement and control. Opening partner Tom Banton contributed 74 from 75 balls as the pair established a commanding 163 run partnership.

Captain Harry Brook maintained England’s momentum with an aggressive 44 from 34 deliveries, helping his side establish a challenging target. Asitha Fernando was Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler, collecting two wickets for 63 runs.

Sri Lanka responded confidently despite losing Kamindu Mendis early. Kusal Mendis produced an entertaining 89 from 71 deliveries, while Avishka Fernando added 48.

However, Rathnayake emerged as the standout performer, smashing 118 from just 77 balls. His innings included 15 fours and one six, giving Sri Lanka genuine hope of completing an extraordinary chase.

The visitors remained competitive until a dramatic collapse changed the contest. With 72 runs required from 46 deliveries, Sri Lanka lost their final five wickets for just 16 runs.

Liam Dawson proved decisive for England, claiming four wickets for 49 runs across his ten overs. His dismissal of Rathnayake effectively ended Sri Lanka’s chances of victory.

Although England celebrated a convincing result, their campaign ended without qualification for the tournament final. Pakistan secured first place with three victories from four matches, while Sri Lanka advanced with two wins.

For England, the victory provided a positive conclusion, highlighting Duckett’s batting brilliance and Dawson’s crucial contribution under pressure.
