England Claim First Nations League Win with Victory Over Czech Republic

England registered their first victory of the 2026 UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2–0 success against the Czech Republic in Prague, recovering from their opening defeat to Spain.

Thomas Tuchel’s team entered the contest determined to regain momentum and produced a controlled performance against opponents who were reduced to ten players during the opening half.

The turning point arrived in the 25th minute when Czech midfielder Pavel Sulc received a red card following a dangerous challenge on Elliot Anderson. The dismissal gave England a numerical advantage and allowed the visitors to dictate proceedings.

Despite enjoying greater control, England struggled to convert their opportunities before the interval. Morgan Rogers came close to breaking the deadlock but saw his effort strike the woodwork.

England finally found their breakthrough shortly after the restart. In the 47th minute, Trent Alexander Arnold delivered an excellent cross into the penalty area, where Anthony Gordon directed a header beyond the goalkeeper.

Gordon continued to impress with his attacking movement and understanding alongside former Newcastle United colleague Lewis Hall, who also contributed effectively from the left flank.

The visitors extended their advantage in the 69th minute through captain Harry Kane. After the Czech defence failed to clear the danger, Kane reacted quickly and finished confidently with his left foot.

The strike marked Kane’s 87th international goal in 123 appearances, further strengthening his remarkable scoring record for England.

Although the Czech Republic attempted to remain competitive, England maintained their defensive organisation and prevented any meaningful comeback.

The result provided Tuchel with a welcome response following the disappointment against Spain. More importantly, it demonstrated England’s ability to remain patient, capitalise on opportunities and secure valuable points as their Nations League campaign gathered momentum.
