England See Off Czech Republic After Early Red Card

England Earn First Nations League Win Against Ten Man Czech Republic

England claimed their first victory of the UEFA Nations League campaign with a controlled performance against the Czech Republic in Prague.

Thomas Tuchel’s team arrived looking to respond after losing their opening fixture to Spain at Wembley. Their task became considerably easier in the 25th minute when Pavel Sulc received a red card following a dangerous challenge on Elliot Anderson.

Despite enjoying plenty of possession, England had to remain patient before finding a breakthrough. Morgan Rogers came close during the opening half when his effort struck the woodwork.

The visitors finally moved ahead shortly after the interval. Trent Alexander Arnold, making his first England start since October 2024, delivered an excellent ball into the penalty area for Anthony Gordon, who guided a header into the net in the 47th minute.

Gordon continued the impressive form he showed against Spain and combined effectively with Lewis Hall on the left side. Hall also contributed going forward, with one of his deliveries being turned onto the post by Czech captain Ladislav Krejci.

England doubled their advantage in the 69th minute. After the Czech defence failed to clear the danger, Harry Kane reacted quickly and produced a powerful left foot finish. It was the England captain’s 87th international goal in 123 appearances.

Alexander Arnold and Hall both used the match to strengthen their case for more opportunities under Tuchel. The Real Madrid defender provided creativity from the right, while Hall offered balance and defensive reliability on the opposite flank.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott was also handed his senior England debut and nearly marked the occasion with a goal following a driving run.

England ultimately secured a deserved result and will now turn their attention to Saturday’s Nations League meeting with Croatia in Rijeka.
