Javi Guerra’s Late Strike Seals Stunning Valencia Comeback at Anoeta

Valencia CF produced one of the most thrilling results of the season, overcoming a numerical disadvantage and two separate deficits to beat Real Sociedad 4 3 on the road.

The hosts started brightly, going ahead inside three minutes when Aihen Muñoz found the net with an effort that took a wicked deflection off Nuñez following a delivery from Elustondo on the right flank. Valencia responded almost immediately, though, drawing level in the eighth minute through a slick exchange between Jesús Vázquez and Javi Guerra, with the latter slotting coolly into the far corner beyond goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

Buoyed by their equalizer, the visitors took control of proceedings and moved ahead through a well constructed passage of play finished by Hugo Duro, set up by Cömert. Diego López almost extended the lead soon after but failed to pick out Duro on a promising break. Real Sociedad pushed for parity before the interval, with Óskarsson firing over and Carlos Soler, a former Valencia man, stinging the side netting, while goalkeeper Dimitrievski produced a fine stop to deny Óskarsson.

Play resumed in heavy rain, and Valencia began the second period aggressively before Real Sociedad hauled themselves level courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Tárrega, who diverted a Pablo Marín cross past his own keeper. Moments later, Óskarsson turned the match on its head, converting on the counter to put the Basque side in front.

Valencia’s task grew harder when Cömert was dismissed for fouling Pablo Marín, prompting a flurry of substitutions. Despite being a man short, the away side kept pushing, and substitute Guido Rodríguez rescued a point with a towering header from an Almeida corner in the 89th minute. Then, deep into added time, a swift counter attack ended with Javi Guerra producing a moment of brilliance to complete an unforgettable turnaround.
