Kamindu Mendis produced one of the most destructive batting displays of the Lanka Premier League 2026 as Colombo Kaps secured a 21 run victory over Dambulla Sixers in Match 12 at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on 25 July.
Asked to bat first, Colombo delivered an imposing 197 for 5 from their 20 overs. The innings was driven by captain Kamindu Mendis, who remained unbeaten on 88 from only 39 balls. His breathtaking assault included nine boundaries and four sixes, while his strike rate reached 225.64.
Mendis controlled the closing stages brilliantly, punishing loose deliveries and repeatedly finding gaps across the field. His acceleration transformed a competitive position into a commanding total and left Dambulla facing a demanding chase under pressure.
Earlier, Rubin Hermann gave the Kaps a strong platform with an energetic 39 from 24 balls. The opener struck six fours and one six, keeping the scoreboard moving and allowing the middle order to build around his contribution.
Dambulla needed 198 to win and showed determination throughout their reply, but finished on 176 for 8 after 20 overs. Pavan Rathnayake led the resistance with a composed fifty, while Marques Ackerman added 40 to keep the contest alive.
Despite those efforts, the Sixers struggled to match the required tempo for long periods. Colombo maintained control by taking wickets at important moments and preventing any partnership from shifting the momentum.
Shahnawaz Dahani and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were the leading bowlers for the Kaps, collecting two wickets each. Their disciplined spells ensured Dambulla never gained enough freedom during the final phase of the chase.
The result gave Colombo Kaps their third success of the season and strengthened their position in the competition. Kamindu’s unbeaten 88 was the defining performance, combining clean striking, calm leadership and excellent awareness in a memorable captain’s innings.
