Liverpool claimed their first Premier League home victory of the campaign with a convincing 2 to 0 success against Brighton, continuing their resurgence under manager Andoni Iraola.
The hosts established control through two quick goals during the opening half. Brighton initially threatened to take the lead, but Yasin Ayari squandered a promising opportunity by shooting over the crossbar.
Liverpool capitalised in the 17th minute when Florian Wirtz’s attempt deflected off Pascal Gross and entered the net. Although Wirtz initially received credit, the opener was officially recorded as an own goal.
Just four minutes later, Alexander Isak extended Liverpool’s advantage with a composed volley following excellent work from Bradley Barcola on the right flank.
Brighton nearly reduced the deficit after goalkeeper Alisson made an error while attempting to distribute possession. However, Ayari struck the post, allowing Liverpool to preserve their comfortable advantage.
The result marked Iraola’s first Premier League triumph at Anfield since replacing Arne Slot during the summer. Liverpool have now secured four consecutive victories across competitions, scoring 14 goals during that impressive sequence.
Isak’s latest contribution took his league tally to six goals, placing him second in the scoring standings behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who has nine.
Liverpool also created several opportunities to increase their margin. Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen produced important saves against Cody Gakpo and Ronald Araujo, while Alexis Mac Allister and Isak missed further chances.
Despite Brighton’s attempts to respond, Liverpool maintained their defensive discipline throughout the closing stages.
The defeat was Brighton’s second in 13 competitive fixtures this season. They remain third in the Premier League standings, while Liverpool advance to fourth, narrowing the gap between the teams to just one point.
