Manzambi’s Double Fires Switzerland Past Bosnia in World Cup Clash

Johan Manzambi produced a memorable impact from the bench as Switzerland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in Los Angeles, putting themselves in a strong position to reach the World Cup knockout rounds.

For much of the contest, Switzerland struggled to turn their dominance into goals. Bosnia remained organized at the back and frustrated the Swiss attack despite several promising opportunities. Dan Ndoye was particularly lively during the opening stages, finding space down the left flank but failing to convert two good chances. The winger later came close with an acrobatic overhead effort that required an excellent save from goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 74th minute and it came from an unlikely source. Just two minutes and 46 seconds after entering the match, Manzambi connected with a loose ball inside the penalty area and volleyed it beyond Vasilj. Remarkably, it was only the 20 year old midfielder’s fourth touch of the game.

Bosnia’s hopes quickly faded after Tarik Muharemovic received a straight red card for bringing down Breel Embolo when the striker was through on goal. With a numerical advantage, Switzerland took full control.

Ruben Vargas doubled the lead with a composed curling finish into the bottom corner before turning provider in the closing stages. In the 90th minute, Vargas delivered another dangerous ball into the area and Manzambi was perfectly positioned to finish from close range and complete his brace.

The scoring was not finished there. Deep into stoppage time, Granit Xhaka calmly converted a penalty after Amar Memic fouled Djibril Sow inside the box. Bosnia managed a late response through Ermin Mahmic, whose impressive volley from a corner provided little more than consolation.

The victory leaves Switzerland at the top of Group B with four points, while Bosnia remain at the bottom with a single point and a goal difference of minus three.

Manzambi’s performance was the major talking point of the evening. The Freiburg midfielder, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Germany and has featured in all 13 Swiss internationals since making his debut last year, once again demonstrated his growing importance.

Swiss coach Murat Yakin praised the youngster after the match, highlighting his creativity, unpredictability and ability to influence games. Based on this display, Manzambi has given his manager a strong reason to consider him for a starting role in the crucial upcoming fixture against Canada.
