Patriots Keep CPL 2026 Hopes Alive With Stunning 218 Run Chase

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots kept their CPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a memorable run chase against Barbados Tridents in Basseterre, successfully hunting down 218 with five deliveries remaining.

Johnson Charles laid the foundation with an explosive 78, combining with Kyle Mayers for a 110 run opening partnership. Charles reached his fifty from only 29 balls and punished the Tridents attack during the first half of the innings. Mayers played a supporting role before being run out following a deflection onto the stumps.

Barbados briefly regained control after Charles departed, restricting the scoring rate through the middle overs. Dasun Shanaka and Jason Holder then restored momentum with valuable late contributions, reducing the requirement to 40 runs from the final three overs.

Daniel Sams removed both batters during the eighteenth over, leaving Patriots needing 33 from 14 deliveries. Wanindu Hasaranga immediately changed the contest, striking his first ball for six from a delivery called above waist height before adding another boundary. Andre Fletcher completed the chase with two powerful sixes, while Hasaranga found important runs behind point.

Earlier, Barbados posted 217 after Quinton de Kock produced a superb century. He shared a century partnership with Zachary Carter, who made 57 before Hasaranga dismissed him with a wrong’un. De Kock reached his second CPL hundred and tenth century in T20 cricket, placing him level with Virat Kohli and David Warner for career T20 hundreds.

Both sides struck 16 sixes, making the match the joint fifth highest six hitting contest in CPL history.

Naseem Shah removed de Kock and Sherfane Rutherford late in the innings, although Chris Green added two more maximums to push Barbados beyond 200.

The result lifted Patriots from the bottom of the standings and preserved their postseason chances, while Barbados dropped to last place. Their qualification prospects now look difficult, although mathematically they remain in contention.
