Rain Ends Jaffna and Dambulla Clash as LPL Playoffs Take Shape

Rain brought a frustrating end to the final league stage encounter between Jaffna Kings and Dambulla Sixers, but the abandoned contest still settled the Lanka Premier League 2026 playoff picture.

The 20th match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium ended without a result after repeated showers prevented Jaffna from beginning their chase. Dambulla had earlier delivered a powerful batting performance, reaching 203 for 8 from their 20 overs after being sent in.

Dinesh Chandimal gave the Sixers an aggressive start with 44 runs from only 24 balls. His innings featured two boundaries and four sixes, helping Dambulla maintain a strong scoring rate despite losing early wickets.

Pavan Rathnayake then carried the momentum through the middle overs. He struck 47 from 28 deliveries, hitting three fours and two sixes. His composed but attacking effort placed Dambulla in a commanding position and gave the bowlers a sizeable target to defend.

Jaffna’s attack managed to limit the damage during the closing stages. Dilshan Madushanka was the most successful bowler, returning figures of 3 for 32 from his four overs. Dunith Wellalage and Lizaad Williams also collected two wickets each as Dambulla finished just above the 200 run mark.

The Kings required 204 for victory, but worsening weather delayed the restart. With conditions showing no sign of improving, officials eventually called off the match before the second innings could begin.

The shared points were not enough to keep Dambulla’s campaign alive. They became the only team eliminated at the end of the league phase.

Galle Gallants, Jaffna Kings, Colombo Kaps and Kandy Royals were therefore confirmed as the four playoff participants. While Dambulla left the competition without the opportunity to defend a strong total, the remaining teams now turn their attention towards the decisive knockout stage of LPL 2026.
