Ravindu Jayantha Seals Last 16 Place in Glasgow

Sri Lankan boxer Ravindu Jayantha made an opening statement at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by securing his place in the last 16 of the men’s 60kg lightweight competition.

Jayantha faced Max Makana of the Solomon Islands in the round of 32 at the SEC Centre in Glasgow. The Sri Lankan delivered a controlled and effective performance, earning a unanimous 5 to 0 points victory from the judges. The result ensured his progress in the straight elimination tournament and kept Sri Lanka’s hopes alive in the division.

From the opening bell, Jayantha appeared composed and focused on managing the contest. He maintained his discipline throughout the bout and did enough across all three rounds to convince every ringside official. His ability to stay organised under pressure proved important against Makana, who entered the contest representing a nation with a growing presence in Pacific boxing.

The victory offers Jayantha momentum as the competition becomes more demanding. He is now scheduled to meet Niall Adams of Guernsey in the round of 16, where another win would move him closer to the medal stages.

The men’s lightweight event features 23 competitors from 23 nations, making every contest crucial. With bronze medals awarded to both losing semifinalists, reaching the final four guarantees a place on the podium.

Jayantha’s opening success gives Sri Lankan boxing supporters reason for optimism. However, the challenge will increase from this point, and the national representative must reproduce the same concentration, accuracy and calmness when he returns to the ring.
