India completed an impressive 165 run victory over Sri Lanka in Galle after Manav Suthar produced another outstanding bowling display to finish with ten wickets in the match.
Sri Lanka began the final day with six wickets remaining and showed plenty of resistance through Sonal Dinusha and Dhananjaya de Silva. Both batters reached fifty and frustrated the Indian attack during the opening stages as the visitors remained disciplined and waited for opportunities.
Ravindra Jadeja eventually provided the breakthrough by dismissing de Silva. After beating him with a sharply turning delivery, Jadeja changed his pace and induced a top edge from an attempted sweep.
Niroshan Dickwella then tried to disrupt the bowlers with attacking strokes and movement around the crease. His stay ended when Prasidh Krishna cramped him for room, leading to a mistimed cut that was safely taken.
Dinusha continued to fight alongside Keshara Nuwantha and moved to 84, putting together another stubborn partnership. However, Suthar changed the contest when Dinusha turned a delivery straight towards leg gully.
From there, Sri Lanka’s resistance quickly collapsed.
Suthar claimed four wickets in just ten deliveries, using quicker balls and subtle variations to trouble the lower order. His control was particularly impressive, with several dismissals coming from deliveries that turned less than the batters expected.
Nuwantha became the final wicket when he was bowled from an inside edge, ending Sri Lanka’s chase before India even needed to take the second new ball.
Suthar finished with another five wicket haul and completed a ten wicket match performance, continuing his impressive start at Test level.
The result provides an important boost for a developing Indian side after recent struggles in spin friendly conditions. Jadeja offered strong support, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna maintained pressure throughout the match as India completed a deserved victory in Galle.
