Tridents Edge Past Patriots to Keep Playoff Dream Alive

Barbados Tridents pulled off a tense win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Kensington Oval, climbing away from the foot of the CPL 2026 standings. The result keeps their postseason chances breathing, with a single victory from their remaining two fixtures now enough to book a spot in the knockouts. For the Patriots, though, the defeat closes the curtain on their campaign.

Skipper Chris Green led the charge with figures of four for twenty, choosing to bowl first and making the Patriots pay early. The visitors were shaken inside the opening overs, shedding a wicket in each of the first three. Johnson Charles departed without scoring, bowled by Green, while Kyle Mayers also fell for nought, nicking one behind off Daniel Sams. Andre Fletcher then dragged a delivery from Green onto his own stumps, leaving the Patriots stumbling at six for three and limping to just twenty one runs after the powerplay.

Green continued his dominant spell, accounting for Alick Athanaze before wrapping up his overs by trapping Dasun Shanaka leg before in the eleventh. Gudakesh Motie then sent back Jason Holder, who had contributed a patient twenty four off twenty seven deliveries. From a shaky fifty one for six, Wanindu Hasaranga launched a blistering counter, smashing boundaries and clearing the ropes off both AM Ghazanfar and Motie. His rapid forty five off twenty five balls dragged the total past the century mark, though two run outs in the closing overs saw the innings folded for one hundred and eighteen.

Chasing the target, Holder struck twice in his first over, removing Brandon King and Rivaldo Clarke, then added Zachary Carter to his tally in the fifth. Quinton de Kock, promoted to number four, joined forces with Sadrack Descarte to steady the innings, deliberately targeting an expensive Hasaranga. Descarte eventually fell to Naseem Shah, but de Kock found support from Sherfane Rutherford as the Tridents guided the chase home comfortably.
