Delhi Capitals Pull Off Record Chase to Sink Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings Make Explosive Start

Delhi Capitals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive after completing a sensational chase against Punjab Kings in a thrilling encounter at Dharamsala. The visitors chased down 211 runs successfully, recording the highest successful T20 chase at the venue while handing Punjab Kings their fourth consecutive defeat.

The pitch offered plenty of help for fast bowlers throughout the contest. In a rare IPL occurrence, neither side used a spinner during the innings. Despite the assistance for seamers, Punjab Kings produced an impressive batting display to post 210 for 5.

Priyansh Arya provided the early fireworks with an aggressive approach from the opening over. Mitchell Starc struggled badly with the new ball and conceded 22 runs in the first over alone. Arya attacked every loose delivery and reached his half century in only 24 balls. Punjab crossed the fifty mark inside three overs and looked set for a massive total.

Delhi Bowlers Fight Back in Middle Overs

After the explosive beginning, Delhi slowly regained control through Mukesh Kumar and Auqib Nabi. Both bowlers used the seam movement effectively and reduced the scoring pace during the middle phase of the innings.

Shreyas Iyer then took responsibility for rebuilding the momentum. The Punjab captain played a composed innings and regularly found the boundary despite wickets falling around him. Cooper Connolly and Suryansh Shedge added important late contributions, with Shedge providing a powerful finish in the final overs. Iyer completed his fifty from 32 deliveries as Punjab crossed the 200 run mark comfortably.

Axar and Miller Revive the Chase

Delhi’s chase began in disastrous fashion. Arshdeep Singh and Yash Thakur removed Abishek Porel, KL Rahul and Sahil Parakh during the powerplay, leaving Delhi struggling at 33 for 3.

Axar Patel stepped up under pressure and steadied the innings alongside Tristan Stubbs. After Stubbs was run out, David Miller joined Axar to launch a brilliant recovery. The pair added valuable runs quickly and shifted momentum back towards Delhi.

Axar played fearlessly and reached his half century with a series of attacking strokes before falling while attempting another boundary.

Ashutosh Finishes the Job for Delhi

Punjab briefly sensed an opportunity after Miller’s dismissal during the closing overs. However, Ashutosh Sharma remained calm under pressure and produced another impactful finishing effort.

Supported by Madhav Tiwari and Auqib Nabi, Ashutosh guided Delhi Capitals across the line with an over remaining. The victory keeps Delhi alive in the playoff race while Punjab Kings are left searching for answers after another disappointing defeat.
