Fakhar Zaman Powers Qalandars to Vital Victory in Lahore Thriller

Lahore Qalandars delivered a crucial performance at Gaddafi Stadium, securing a narrow nine-run win over Quetta Gladiators, thanks largely to a sensational innings from Fakhar Zaman. His blistering 103 off just 51 balls proved to be the difference in a contest that swung multiple times before reaching its dramatic conclusion.

Batting first, Lahore posted a competitive 198, driven by Fakhar’s aggressive stroke play. He dominated the innings from early on, reaching his hundred in just 50 deliveries, smashing 11 boundaries and clearing the ropes six times. While others struggled to maintain momentum, contributions from Charith Asalanka (31 off 24) helped stabilise the innings, allowing Fakhar to play freely. A late push from Daniel Sams added valuable runs as Lahore finished strongly.

In response, Quetta Gladiators began their chase with intent, building a 49-run opening partnership. Shamyl Hussain scored a brisk 53 off 31, while Rilee Rossouw injected momentum with a rapid 62 from just 29 balls. At that stage, the target looked well within reach.

However, the turning point came when Rossouw departed at the end of the 15th over. From there, the chase lost direction. The middle and lower order failed to capitalise, managing only 31 runs in the final four overs. Despite a late effort from Abrar Ahmed, who struck 24 off 14 balls, the required rate proved too steep.

Lahore’s bowling unit held their nerve under pressure, with Haris Rauf returning figures of 2 for 28 and Shaheen Shah Afridi chipping in with a key wicket. Their execution in the closing stages ensured the hosts stayed ahead.

This victory marks Lahore’s first consecutive wins this season and lifts them to fourth place, keeping their playoff hopes alive with two matches remaining. For Quetta, the defeat complicates their campaign, leaving them dependent on other results to stay in contention.
