Delhi Capitals Stay Alive in Playoff Race After Thrilling Win Over Rajasthan Royals

Delhi Capitals kept their IPL playoff dream alive after securing a dramatic five wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In a pressure filled chase of 194, Delhi held their nerve and crossed the target with four deliveries remaining thanks to crucial knocks from Abishek Porel, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Ashutosh Sharma.

Rajasthan appeared set for a massive total after dominating the first half of their innings. Youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced an explosive 46 from only 21 balls while Riyan Parag smashed a brilliant 51 off 26 deliveries. At one stage, Rajasthan were comfortably placed at 160 for 2 after 14 overs and looked capable of reaching well beyond 220.

However, Mitchell Starc completely shifted the momentum with a sensational spell in the 15th over. The Australian pacer removed Parag, Donovan Ferreira, and Ravi Singh in quick succession to slow Rajasthan’s charge. His variations and slower deliveries proved extremely effective during the death overs. Starc eventually finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 40, while Lungi Ngidi and Madhav Tiwari provided strong support with two wickets each.

Despite Dhruv Jurel contributing 53 from 40 balls, Rajasthan could only add 33 runs in the final six overs and ended on 193 for 8.

Delhi responded confidently with their strongest powerplay performance of the season. KL Rahul received an early lifeline when a simple catch was dropped off Jofra Archer, and the experienced batter made Rajasthan pay heavily. Alongside Porel, he attacked the bowling freely as Delhi raced to 72 without loss inside six overs.

Porel played fluently throughout his stay and completed a quick half century from 29 balls before falling shortly after. Rahul continued steadily and added an important 56 from 42 deliveries, but Delhi’s scoring rate dipped during the middle phase as Rajasthan tightened their bowling.

The match eventually came down to the closing overs where Axar Patel’s composure made the difference. The Delhi captain collected valuable boundaries under pressure, while Ashutosh Sharma delivered the finishing blows. Needing seven from the final over, Ashutosh smashed a boundary followed by a towering six to seal an unforgettable win for Delhi Capitals and keep their tournament hopes alive.
