RCB Rise to the Top as Bowlers and Batters Combine to Outclass LSG

Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a commanding all-round performance to climb to the top of the IPL 2026 standings, comfortably defeating Lucknow Super Giants after restricting them to 146 and completing the chase with nearly five overs remaining.

The foundation for this victory was laid by a disciplined bowling effort, spearheaded by Josh Hazlewood and Krunal Pandya. While others picked up more wickets, it was their control and consistency that applied relentless pressure. The duo combined for 23 dot balls, forcing errors from the opposition batters. Rishabh Pant endured a difficult outing, first retiring hurt after being struck on the elbow early in the innings, before returning later only to fall for 1 from 6 deliveries.

Hazlewood’s impact was immediate. Operating on a surface that offered grip, he maintained tight lines and denied scoring opportunities, making stroke play extremely challenging. His probing lengths unsettled key players, including Nicholas Pooran, who was dismissed while attempting to break free. During the first half of the innings, RCB’s pace attack conceded runs at just over seven per over, with phases of even tighter control when they stuck to disciplined channels.

Krunal Pandya reached a significant milestone by entering the list of bowlers with 100 IPL wickets. His clever variations proved vital, including a deceptive delivery that dismissed Mitchell Marsh, who had been anchoring the innings with 40 runs at the time. The pressure built by Hazlewood and Krunal paved the way for Rasikh Salam and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to strike decisively, finishing with four and three wickets respectively. LSG eventually lost five wickets in the final overs, collapsing under mounting pressure.

In reply, Virat Kohli made an immediate impact as an Impact Substitute, racing to 32 from just 14 balls with aggressive stroke play. He later slowed as conditions became tougher, finishing with 49 from 34 deliveries. Rajat Patidar then continued his remarkable form, showcasing his power hitting once again, adding to his season tally of sixes at an impressive rate.

RCB maintained their attacking intent throughout the chase, sealing a convincing win and reinforcing their credentials as serious title contenders this season.
