SRH Dominate with Record Total to Hand KKR Heavy Defeat

Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a powerful all round performance to secure a convincing 65 run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026. In doing so, they became the first team this season to successfully defend a total, setting the benchmark with an imposing 226 for 8.

The foundation of this win was laid by an explosive start from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The pair put together a rapid 82 run partnership in just 5.4 overs, immediately putting the pressure on Kolkata. Head played an aggressive knock of 46 from 21 balls, while Abhishek matched the intensity with 48 off 21 deliveries. Their fearless approach ensured Hyderabad dominated the early phase of the innings.

Although Kolkata managed to pull things back slightly in the middle overs, Heinrich Klaasen stepped up at the right time. His composed 52 from 35 balls helped Hyderabad regain momentum and push the total even further. Nitish Reddy also added a valuable 39, as the team collected 51 runs in the final four overs to finish with the highest total of the season so far.

Chasing 227 was always going to be a tough task, but Kolkata showed early intent. Finn Allen came out attacking and smashed 24 runs in a single over, giving his side a quick start. However, his dismissal soon after shifted the momentum back in Hyderabad’s favour.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept Kolkata in the contest with a well played 52 from just 27 balls, guiding the team to 110 for 3 at the halfway mark. Just when it seemed like the chase was building, his run out proved to be the turning point of the match.

Rinku Singh tried to keep the fight alive with a quick 35, but the required rate kept climbing and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Hyderabad’s bowlers held their nerve and never allowed Kolkata to regain control of the chase.

Jaydev Unadkat led the bowling effort with three wickets for 21 runs, while Malinga picked up two for 14 and Nitish Reddy added two for 17. Earlier, Blessing Muzarabani had also impressed with four wickets for 41 runs.

Kolkata were eventually bowled out for 161 in 16 overs, falling well short of the target. It was a complete performance from Sunrisers Hyderabad, combining aggressive batting with disciplined bowling to secure a memorable win.
