England sealed a memorable 27 run victory over India at Lord’s to claim the ODI series 2 to 1, despite magnificent centuries from Ben Duckett and Rohit Sharma.
Batting first, England produced 387 for 3, the highest List A total ever recorded at Lord’s. Duckett led the charge with a powerful 141, setting a new record for the highest individual ODI score at the ground. He shared a commanding 192 run opening partnership with Jacob Bethell, who struck an elegant 91.
Joe Root continued his excellent form with an unbeaten 74 from 48 balls, registering his sixth consecutive ODI fifty. Jos Buttler then delivered a devastating late burst, smashing 41 not out from only 13 deliveries. Their finishing assault added 82 runs during the final five overs and left India facing a daunting target of 388.
India responded bravely through Rohit, who scored 138 from 122 balls and became the first Indian man to register an ODI century at Lord’s. His innings included 15 fours and six sixes, while Shubman Gill contributed a fluent 77 in a 147 run partnership.
Virat Kohli kept the chase alive with 74, including two sixes after reaching his first fifty at Lord’s in any format. However, England maintained control as the required rate climbed beyond reach.
Sam Curran played a decisive role with the ball, taking four wickets for 75 runs. His slower deliveries removed several key batters, including Kohli, as India closed on 360 for 7.
The result gave England their first ODI series triumph over India since 2018 and only their eighth in 22 attempts. For India, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar proved costly, but Rohit and Kohli still gave the Lord’s crowd a memorable display of experience, class and determination on a day filled with exceptional attacking cricket.
