Red Bull Lock In Verstappen as Championship Rebuild Continues

Red Bull have secured Max Verstappen’s future after confirming a new agreement that will keep the four time Formula 1 world champion with the team until the conclusion of the 2030 season.

Verstappen has represented the Milton Keynes squad since 2016, when he stepped up from Toro Rosso midway through the campaign. Since then, the Dutch driver has established himself as one of the sport’s leading figures, collecting 71 Grand Prix victories and four Drivers’ Championships.

His latest title arrived in 2024. McLaren then claimed both major championships in 2025, with Verstappen narrowly missing out on a fifth drivers’ crown after an impressive late season charge. Lando Norris eventually prevailed by only two points.

Red Bull’s struggles under the latest technical regulations had recently fuelled suggestions that Verstappen could consider opportunities elsewhere, despite his previous contract running until 2028. The newly confirmed extension now ends that uncertainty.

The timing of the announcement is particularly significant, arriving ahead of Verstappen’s home event at Zandvoort. It also represents a major vote of confidence in Team Principal Laurent Mekies and Red Bull’s plans to return to the front of the grid.

Verstappen said he remains motivated by the challenge of bringing the team back into regular contention for race victories and championships. He also described Red Bull as a second family, reflecting on the success they have enjoyed together since his arrival.

Mekies, who became Team Principal in July 2025, has overseen a rebuilding period during the past year. Red Bull prioritised maximising its opportunities in 2025, which contributed to a more difficult start under the 2026 regulations.

Keeping Verstappen until 2030 gives Red Bull stability around its most important asset as the team continues working towards another championship challenge.
