Four time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen once again showed why fans enjoy his dry sense of humour after a funny exchange with American television personality Jimmy Fallon went viral during the Miami Grand Prix weekend.
The Dutch racing star appeared alongside Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar as part of a promotional segment connected to Ford and Red Bull Racing. While the interview itself was clearly organised for entertainment, viewers online quickly focused on Verstappen’s sarcastic reaction to one particular joke from Fallon.
The Tonight Show presenter began the conversation enthusiastically, welcoming the drivers before attempting a playful pun involving Verstappen’s surname. Fallon joked about “Ver stopping at the store” and “Ver stopping to get coffee” while trying to create a humorous moment for the audience.
Without missing a beat, Verstappen calmly responded, “Ver stopping this interview,” while keeping a completely straight face. The delivery immediately caught attention online, with fans praising the champion’s timing and natural sarcasm.
Social media platforms quickly filled with reactions from Formula 1 supporters. Many viewers felt Verstappen’s response was far funnier than the original joke itself. One fan joked that Fallon was close to getting a “Max Verslappin” if the interview continued in the same direction, while others highlighted Verstappen’s opening line where he sarcastically claimed he “loved being there.”
Several fans compared the Red Bull driver’s expressions to the style used in the comedy series The Office, suggesting Verstappen should look directly into the camera after making sarcastic comments during interviews. Others admitted they experienced second hand embarrassment during Fallon’s attempt at humour, saying the pun felt overly forced.
Despite the awkwardness, many viewers appreciated how naturally Verstappen handled the moment. Comments praising his sharp wit and effortless humour continued spreading across Reddit and X throughout the weekend.
The viral interview was not the only unusual appearance Fallon made during the Miami Grand Prix. Earlier on race day, the American host joined the famous grid walk with former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle at the Hard Rock Stadium. During the segment, Fallon unexpectedly grabbed Brundle’s microphone and bit the foam cover, leaving the veteran broadcaster visibly stunned. Brundle quickly replied, “Don’t do that again,” in a moment that also circulated widely online.
While Miami delivered plenty of racing drama, Verstappen’s sarcastic one liner may have ended up becoming one of the weekend’s most memorable highlights.
