Málaga produced a thrilling finish at La Rosaleda to secure a 1–1 draw against Espanyol in their eighth La Liga fixture of the 2026/27 campaign, with substitute Adrián Niño delivering a dramatic equaliser deep into added time.
The visitors made an impressive start, taking the advantage in the 13th minute through Bryan Zaragoza. The winger demonstrated excellent individual ability before finding the net, leaving the home supporters disappointed after an encouraging opening period.
Málaga had threatened earlier when David Larrubia tested goalkeeper Ángel Fortuño in the tenth minute. Despite falling behind, the hosts continued searching for opportunities, while Espanyol looked dangerous whenever they advanced into attacking positions.
Roberto Fernández had opportunities to increase the visitors’ advantage, but the Andalusian side remained within touching distance as the contest progressed.
Following the interval, Málaga increased their attacking intensity and attempted to regain control. Manager Juan Funes introduced fresh players to strengthen the team’s offensive approach, including Niño during the second period.
The statistics highlighted Málaga’s determination. They controlled 58 percent of possession, registered 15 attempts and managed seven efforts on target. Espanyol finished with nine attempts, including four directed towards goal.
The home team also earned eight corners compared with Espanyol’s two, demonstrating their sustained pressure throughout the encounter.
As the final whistle approached, Espanyol appeared destined to collect three valuable points. However, Málaga refused to surrender.
In the 93rd minute, Rafita supplied an inviting delivery from the right flank, allowing Niño to convert from close range and send the stadium into celebration.
The result denied Espanyol an important away victory while rewarding Málaga’s persistence.
Although both clubs shared the points, the dramatic conclusion provided renewed encouragement for the hosts as they continued their campaign in Spain’s top division.
