Brentford Cruise Past Tottenham with Dominant Opening Day Win

Brentford opened their 2026/27 Premier League campaign in emphatic fashion, securing a 3-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Gtech Community Stadium.

Keith Andrews named the same starting side used against Frankfurt a week earlier, with Mamadou Sangaré making his first Premier League appearance. The hosts quickly took control and created several early opportunities before breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute.

Sangaré played an important role in the move, combining with Dango Ouattara before finding Keane Lewis Potter, who produced a composed first time finish past Antonín Kinský.

Tottenham struggled to gain any rhythm as Brentford continued to dictate proceedings. Their pressure brought another reward in the 33rd minute. Mathias Jensen tested Kinský with a strike from distance and the goalkeeper could only push the ball into the path of Vitaly Janelt, who converted from close range.

The hosts carried their momentum into the second half and needed fewer than five minutes to make it 3-0. Janelt’s corner was headed across goal by Nathan Collins before Sangaré’s powerful attempt was saved. Michael Kayode reacted quickest to score on his 50th Premier League appearance.

Tottenham finally threatened when Mikey Moore forced Caoimhín Kelleher into a fine close range save.

Brentford should have added a fourth in the 55th minute after Kevin Schade earned a penalty following a challenge from Rodrigo Bentancur. Igor Thiago beat Kinský from the spot but saw his effort strike the post.

Further chances followed for both teams, although Brentford remained comfortably in control until the final whistle.

The victory also extended the Bees’ unbeaten sequence in their first home league match of a season to seven games, recording six wins and one draw since 2019.
