Calvert Lewin Rescues Leeds Point in Brentford Draw

Dominic Calvert Lewin came to Leeds United’s rescue with a late equaliser as Daniel Farke’s side battled to a 1 1 Premier League draw with Brentford at Elland Road.

The visitors arrived with confidence following their victory over Tottenham Hotspur and controlled much of the first period. Their pressure eventually paid off four minutes before the interval when Kevin Schade produced an outstanding finish from Keane Lewis Potter’s delivery to put Brentford ahead.

Leeds had struggled to create clear openings before the break, while Joe Rodon’s apparent hamstring problem added to their concerns.

Farke responded by reshaping his team after half time, switching to a back four and introducing Ao Tanaka and Harry Wilson. The changes brought greater energy, with James Justin forcing Caoimhin Kelleher into an excellent save midway through the second period.

The hosts eventually found a way through in the 79th minute. Ethan Ampadu released substitute Lukas Nmecha, whose low ball across goal was converted from close range by Calvert Lewin.

The goal extended an impressive personal record for the striker, who has now found the net in every Premier League campaign from 2016/17 through to 2026/27, making it 11 consecutive seasons.

Brentford almost responded immediately. Igor Thiago connected powerfully with Dango Ouattara’s delivery, but James Trafford reacted sharply to keep his header out before the Brazilian failed to convert the rebound.

Calvert Lewin later had another chance when he went through against Kelleher, though the goalkeeper denied him before an offside decision followed.

Neither team was able to produce a winner during the closing stages.

The result leaves both Leeds and Brentford with four points after two matches. Brentford sit fourth in the early Premier League standings, while Leeds occupy seventh place, with goal difference separating the two sides.
