Chamika and Colombage Inspire Galle to Fourth LPL Victory

Galle Gallants strengthened their Lanka Premier League 2026 campaign with an emphatic 44 run victory over Dambulla Sixers in Match 14 at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on 26 July.

After choosing to take first strike, Galle delivered a powerful batting display and reached 220 for 6 from their 20 overs. Chamika Karunaratne was the central figure, producing a thrilling 72 from only 34 balls. His innings featured four fours and six sixes, while his strike rate of 211.76 underlined the speed and control of his attack.

Dambulla’s bowlers faced a difficult evening, although Dushmantha Chameera delivered an individual performance of note. The fast bowler collected five wickets and ended with 5 for 55 from four overs. Despite conceding heavily, his spell prevented Galle from adding even more runs during the closing stages.

Set 221 for victory, the Sixers required a rapid beginning but were unable to build the momentum needed for such a demanding chase. Ramesh Mendis offered resistance with 39, while Niroshan Dickwella added 32. However, regular dismissals and a rising required rate kept Dambulla under constant pressure.

Sachindu Colombage played a major role in shutting down the pursuit. Appearing in his first match of the season, the wrist spinner immediately impressed with figures of 3 for 17. His control through the middle overs disrupted Dambulla’s batting order and removed any realistic hope of a late recovery.

The Sixers closed on 176 for 7 after 20 overs, leaving Galle comfortable winners. The result secured the Gallants’ fourth success of the competition and highlighted the depth within their squad. Karunaratne’s explosive contribution and Colombage’s excellent introduction proved decisive in a commanding team effort.

With batting firepower, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, Galle once again showed why they remain among the strongest contenders in this season’s championship race so far.
