Galle Gallants continued their strong start to the Lanka Premier League 2026 by securing a convincing 60 run victory over Jaffna Kings in the tenth fixture of the competition at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on July 23.
Asked to bat first, Galle built an excellent total of 193 for 8 from their 20 overs. Chris Lynn, making his first appearance of the season for the Gallants, gave the innings immediate momentum with an explosive 46 from only 22 balls. His attacking display included three fours and four sixes, putting Jaffna’s bowlers under pressure during the early stages.
After Lynn was dismissed, Sahan Arachchige took control of the middle overs and ensured the scoring rate remained high. The left hander produced a superb 63 from 36 deliveries, finding the boundary four times and clearing it on three occasions. His well judged innings provided the stability Galle required while also helping them finish with a demanding target.
Dilshan Madushanka and Lizaad Williams were the leading wicket takers for Jaffna, with both fast bowlers collecting two wickets.
Jaffna needed 194 to win, but their pursuit quickly lost direction as wickets fell at regular stages. The batting unit struggled to form a partnership capable of shifting the pressure back onto Galle.
Dunith Wellalage was the only batter to offer sustained resistance. The all rounder recorded his first T20 fifty, scoring 56 from 39 balls with four fours and four sixes. However, he received little assistance from the rest of the order, leaving Jaffna well short of the required total.
Eshan Malinga and Tharindu Rathnayake were outstanding with the ball, taking three wickets each. Their disciplined efforts completed a comprehensive win and handed Galle Gallants their third success of the LPL 2026 season. The result further strengthened their position during the tournament’s opening phase.
