Henry Cejudo’s first outing under the Misfits Boxing banner didn’t come easy, but the former double UFC titleholder walked away with the win nonetheless. Facing Javon Walton on Saturday night at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Cejudo needed every bit of his championship pedigree to escape with a split decision after four hard fought rounds.
The judges were far from unanimous. One scored it 39 to 37 in Walton’s favor, while the other two sided with Cejudo, 37 to 39 and 39 to 37, sealing his narrow victory and pushing his record to one win with no defeats.
Walton, who many fans recognize from his role as Ashtray on HBO’s Euphoria, brought youthful energy and sharp hand speed into the ring. He landed several crisp shots that tested Cejudo early, but couldn’t sustain that pressure across the full distance. His record now stands at three wins, one loss and a draw, with a single knockout to his name.
As the bout progressed, Cejudo settled into a rhythm, reading his younger opponent’s movement and dictating the pace through the middle and closing rounds. That late surge in composure proved decisive on the cards.
Notably, Walton wasn’t even the original opponent. He stepped in on short notice after Misfits regular Deen The Great pulled out citing a shoulder issue. Following the fight, Cejudo didn’t hold back, casting doubt on the legitimacy of Deen’s withdrawal while giving Walton credit for stepping up despite limited preparation time.
For Cejudo, it wasn’t the dominant boxing statement some may have expected, but a win, even a slim one, marks a solid start to this new chapter.
