Islam Makhachev Makes UFC History With Record 17 – Fight Win Streak

Islam Makhachev has written his name into the UFC record books after extending his winning streak to an unprecedented 17 consecutive victories inside the Octagon.

The UFC welterweight champion achieved the milestone at UFC 330 in Philadelphia, where he defeated Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision in a competitive five round title fight. The judges scored the contest 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 in favour of Makhachev, taking his professional record to 29-1.

Makhachev entered the bout level with former middleweight great Anderson Silva on 16 consecutive UFC victories. His latest win moved him clear at the top of the all time list and gave him sole possession of the longest winning streak in UFC history. Silva’s 16 fight run had stood as one of the promotion’s most celebrated records for years.

Garry provided a difficult challenge throughout the contest, but Makhachev once again demonstrated the qualities that have made him one of the most dominant fighters of his generation. His wrestling and control remained important weapons, while a powerful head kick that dropped Garry in the second round helped him establish an advantage during the fight.

The victory was also significant because it came in Makhachev’s first defence of the UFC welterweight championship. He captured the 170 pound title by defeating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in November 2025, becoming the 11th fighter in UFC history to win championships in two different weight divisions.

Having already built a championship legacy at lightweight, Makhachev has continued his dominance after moving up to welterweight. His record breaking 17th straight UFC victory further strengthens his position among the promotion’s greatest fighters and adds another major achievement to an already remarkable career.

With two division championship success and now the longest winning streak in UFC history, Makhachev continues to set new standards as his reign at the top of the sport moves forward.
