Japan moved a step closer to securing a place in the World Cup knockout rounds with an emphatic victory over Tunisia, whose disappointing campaign officially came to an end.
The Asian side wasted no time asserting their authority, taking the lead inside the opening minutes through Daichi Kamada. A swift attacking move caught the Tunisian defence off guard, allowing the Crystal Palace midfielder to finish from close range and give Japan an early advantage.
Japan continued to dictate the tempo and doubled their lead soon after. Ayase Ueda showcased his quality with a precise strike from outside the penalty area, sending the ball through a defender’s legs before finding the bottom corner. The goal highlighted the confidence and sharpness that Japan displayed throughout the contest.
Tunisia struggled to respond and rarely looked capable of troubling their opponents. Their defensive structure was repeatedly exposed, while Japan’s patient passing and intelligent movement created openings across the pitch.
A third goal arrived when Junya Ito calmly rounded off another flowing attack. Released into space with a perfectly timed pass, he kept his composure and slotted beyond goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen to put the result beyond doubt.
Ueda completed the scoring later in the match, directing a looping header into the far corner to cap an outstanding personal performance and seal a convincing four goal triumph.
The result lifts Japan to four points in the group standings and leaves them in a strong position to reach the last 32. While qualification is not yet mathematically secured, they are well placed ahead of their final group fixture against Sweden.
For Tunisia, however, the defeat confirms their elimination from the tournament. They will now play group leaders the Netherlands in their final match, with only pride left to compete for after a difficult and ultimately unsuccessful World Cup campaign.
