Maaz Sadaqat Emerges as Pakistan’s Answer to the No. 3 Batting Challenge

Pakistan may have finally discovered a promising solution to their longstanding batting concerns, with 21 year old Maaz Sadaqat delivering impressive performances in the shortest format.

Despite making just five T20I appearances since his debut at the Asian Games, Sadaqat has quickly attracted attention through his attacking instincts and remarkable consistency.

His career statistics place him among an exclusive group of 22 players in men’s T20 cricket who have accumulated at least 1,000 runs while maintaining an average above 30 and a strike rate exceeding 150. Remarkably, he is the only Pakistani batter to achieve this distinction.

During his latest eight T20 innings, Sadaqat accumulated 451 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 194.39. His achievements included two centuries for Jamaica Kingsmen in the Caribbean Premier League and consecutive fifties against Sri Lanka.

His outstanding 96 from 51 deliveries in the second T20I helped Pakistan reach 215 for 3, their highest T20I total on home soil.

Pakistan’s struggles with early scoring have remained evident. Since January 2025, their leading three batting positions collectively recorded a strike rate of 139.61, ranking sixth among the 12 full member nations.

Sadaqat offers a different dimension through his ability to accelerate against both fast bowling and spin. His T20 averages stand at 37.21 against pace and 37.58 against spin.

Although his dismissal for a duck in the final Sri Lanka encounter highlighted areas requiring improvement, his potential remains undeniable.

With Pakistan having experimented with 10 different players at number three across 48 T20Is since 2025, Sadaqat now has an opportunity to establish himself as a dependable attacking presence.

His development could prove crucial to Pakistan’s ambitions of building a more competitive T20 batting unit.
