Real Sociedad claimed an important 3-2 victory over Deportivo de A Coruña in an entertaining La Liga encounter on Sunday, surviving a determined comeback after establishing a comfortable advantage at Anoeta Stadium.
The hosts initially struggled to break through Deportivo’s energetic approach, but their attacking efficiency eventually made the difference. Jon Martín opened the scoring in the 29th minute, directing a powerful header into the net following a corner delivered by Carlos Soler.
Just five minutes later, Arsen Zakharyan extended Sociedad’s advantage with an impressive left footed strike from outside the penalty area. The visitors attempted to respond, although the home defence successfully restricted their opportunities before the interval.
Sociedad continued their momentum after the restart. Gonçalo Guedes finished an effective counterattack in the 54th minute, increasing the score to 3-0 and seemingly placing the contest beyond Deportivo’s reach.
However, the visitors refused to surrender. Mario Soriano reduced the deficit in the 61st minute, giving his teammates renewed confidence.
The match became increasingly dramatic when Sociedad defender Pablo Marín received a red card in the 66th minute. Deportivo capitalised on the resulting penalty, with Yeremay Hernández converting in the 69th minute to make it 3-2.
Playing with an additional man, Deportivo pushed forward relentlessly in search of an equaliser. Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro delivered several valuable interventions to preserve his team’s narrow lead.
Deportivo’s Lorenzo Amatucci was also dismissed late in the contest, adding another dramatic moment to an already eventful afternoon.
Despite considerable pressure, Sociedad protected their advantage until the final whistle.
The result secured three valuable league points for the hosts, while Deportivo were left disappointed after an impressive second half recovery. For Sociedad, the victory highlighted their attacking quality but also exposed defensive weaknesses that require attention before their upcoming fixtures.
